Government liability

Acts by the state, local or provincial authorities, or other government bodies can cause bodily or fatal injuries. If the government has acted unlawfully, it is liable for such injuries. Another possibility is that the government has caused injuries by inaction, like non-enforcement of safety regulations or failure of supervision. Government liability is subject to other rules than ‘ordinary’ companies or individuals. This makes government liability a complex area of law, and one that is continuously evolving, too.

Beer advocaten represented victims of the shooting in Alphen aan den Rijn, and of the accident with a monster truck in Haaksbergen, the Enschede fireworks disaster, the legionnaire’s outbreak at the Westfriese Flora flower show, the New Year’s Eve fire in the café in Volendam and the fire in the prison complex at Schiphol airport.
